THE URBAN ENVIRONMENT : The starting post!

For this project I initially chose the detailed and intricate railings and gates in the city due to their beauty and abundance throughout Limerick, however as I've furthered my research I've become more drawn to the rather plain, ugly, unassuming railings. I believe this is due o my already love of The Modern Movement, Art Nouveau & Art Deco. I love their simplicity and symmetry. I'm facinated by how they cast shadows and draw the eye to certain shapes if gazed at long enough. They are normally invisible to us due to their oversaturated use throughout EVERY city and populated area in the world. I hope as this project progresses I can expand it far beyond the roots of its beginning and take it through as many different mediums as possible.
